Meet Our Team

Dorrie Woods is the oh so proud president of Travel For Me creating personalized travel and offering fully escorted travel to adults with intellectual developmental disabilities.  Dorrie is family oriented with a devotion to God, her husband, children and grandchildren. She faithfully plans at least one family trip per year that at times would include as many as 20 family members and friends. These memorable trips planted a seed of travel for every individual, regardless of ability and is being fulfilled through Travel For Me.  

In her positions as foster parent (to mostly special needs children and adults) and assistant principal, she has supervised, escorted and loved thousands of general education and special education students. These experiences have given personal insight to how special needs individuals are often times marginalized, discredited, ignored and not valued as contributing members of society. After a successful career in education Dorrie retired to a life of family, sharing her sense of humor, a goal of visiting 15 different restaurants annually and travel. She came out of retirement after two months to answer the call to create a supported space for adults with down syndrome, autism, and intellectual disabilities to experience the pleasure and joy of and travel.

Dorrie a die-hard lover of chocolates, adventures and meeting new people enjoys the opportunities, rewards and blessings gleaned as an advocate for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Sherma Johnson is the Operations  Director who supports and leads the team of staff in day to day operations.  Sherma is well -versed in carrying out the business needs of the organization in the absence of the Executive Director.  Sherma is very personable, and has excellent organizational skills. Sherma also helps to recruit, hire, train and coach staff to ensure maximum efficiency of the organization.

I decided to work for Travel for Me because I saw the admirable, fulfilling, heartwarming need to help others. I saw Travel for Me as a way to give back and help others maximize outings that would satisfy their potential for growth in society and gain self esteem.

Sherma’s eduational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of La Verne, California majoring in Health Care Administration.  Sherma also worked for Kaiser Permanente with 30 years of experience in Human Resources and Managerial Administrative Services  in an Ambulatory care clinic.
